International Reach of the Cremerie de Pop Up Stores
... a few things needed to happen before

Cremerie de Paris is part of a magic triangle
- a unique geographic location in the heart of Paris
- web adresses with a global impact
- almost 900 years of histoiry, since 1129.

A story the left and a story that returned ...

Telecommunications is one aspect of this story
It all started in 1671 with the creation of the Royal Post Services
which at its peak controlled 900 post offices in France and Italy.
The small images in the postal route map show the Postmasters Louis Leon Pajot
and Anselm Franz, 2nd Prince von Thurn und Taxis.
The Postal Company of the Thurn and Taxis was based in Brussels and Frankfurt.

The Story left 1738 may 21 after a burst of fury from King Louis XV.
Over time the story was forgotten,
but it remained in the memory of the
Thurn & Taxis Postmasters,
that continued their company until 1867.

1986
Johannes, the 11th Prince von Thurn & Taxis
causes the return of the Telecom Story that had left two and a half centuries ago.
He knew VB, the Hotel de Villeroy Bourbon

1987 The story begins with the Japanese brand Sony,
manufacturer of the most beautiful phones of the time.
It is impossible to sell these devices,
forbidden bythe PTT (Posts, Telegraph and Telephone) which still have a monopoly.
But nothing prohibits the creation of an after-sales center
which welcomes more and more people,
Sony Lovers, photographers, actors, Lady Diana (1961 - 1997).
Working as an independent partner in the house of Akio Morita (1921 - 1999)
is a wonderful school.

1993 thanks to revenues from the Sony phones
a small jewel left by the stylist Coco Chanel (1883 - 1971)
it becomes possible to obtain a real estate loan
to acquire the legendary Cremerie de Paris N°1,
located in the former Hotel de la Poste, the Hotel de Villeroy Bourbon (VB)
...a bit as if the famous stylist had already left this world 22 years before
had decided that the story had to continue.

1994 A first website, still published on the Minitel system, comes alive.

1995 With Morita's withdrawal from the business world,
working with Sony became difficult.
The solution is to open an Internet cafe
that is still way ahead of its time because in France few people use the Internet,
except American tourists.
The beginnings are quite difficult with insufficient money coming from the web cafe.

1999 a slightly unusual encounter leaves its mark.
A couple from Los Angeles crosses paths with the Cremerie de Paris.
Some hotels, like the Ritz, redirected their customers looking for a web connection,
towards the Cybercafe de Paris (Cremerie de Paris N°1).
Almost all are Americans.

The California couple was a lot of fun.
The conversation falls on Impressionists who lived in Paris

They were fascinated that Vincent van Gogh (1853 - 1890) had so many links with the Cremerie de Paris.

Van Gogh had a friend, the painter Eugène Boch (1855 - 1941)

whose aunt Octavie Villeroy (1823 - 1899) was connected

to the early ears of the Hotel de Villeroy Bourbon / Cremerie de Paris,
long befor the times of the Postal Service.

Eugène was at the same time a 2 x great-great-uncle

of the editor of this aricle who worked at the the Internet cafe,
Octavie his 3 x great grandmother.

As a teenager he was a guide at a Ceramic museum,

thanks to the curator Thérèse Thomas
he knew the van Gogh stories
as if it had been possible
to cross the barriers of time.

The Califonians had never met anyone who had such close ties to van Gogh.

A few months later, a New Year card arrived at the Cremerie de Paris.
“Millenum Greetings, to Ben with best wishes, Buzz Aldrin”
On the back of the card was a web address,
but who would have imagined that the joyful man from California
was an astronaut, one of two men who were on the first flight to the moon.

Barely recovered from these emotions an email arrives.
"We are coming to Paris, we are staying at the Ritz,
would you like to organize something with us
?
These are our numbers....
Buzz, Lois, Secretary, Ritz Hotel".

Fortunately many pictures remain from a multitude of encounters which followed,
each year between 2000 and 2005,

otherwise one might believe that the encounter is an imaginary fairy tale.

A other Americain met during the times of the Internet Cafe
was called Jon Postel.
He also came from California.
He was a computer scientiest and he invented the dot com Internet domains.

He was not so much interested in the stories of the painters
but captivated that the old center of the Postal Services still existed
after such a long period of time
He loved the idea to see it come back to Live.

He thought that a Two Letter Domain,
the 676 shortest Adresses of the web
would be a cool addition to our Story.
